For the chapter after the title ends.

A private peer community for senior professionals navigating the first 24 months after leaving corporate life or exiting a business.

The period after success is rarely discussed.
Identity shifts. Options multiply. The map disappears.
Headland Road exists for that moment.

Free to join.
We are opening the circle carefully.

The transition few people prepare for

Leaving a senior role or exiting a business creates a strange moment. From the outside it looks like freedom. From the inside it often feels like:• loss of structure
• identity shift
• too many possible directions
• fewer peers who understand the transition
Most conversations stay tactical.Jobs. Superannuation. Money. Investments. Startups. House prices. Boards. Consulting. Advisory. But the deeper questions are different.
And they rarely have a place to be discussed.
Who am I now?
What matters next?
How do I design the next chapter intentionally?

A quiet circle for the second act

Headland Road is a small, thoughtful peer community for people navigating that transition.Inside the community:• structured reflection prompts
• thoughtful written discussions
• perspective from peers in the same phase
• frameworks for designing a meaningful next chapter
The focus is not networking. It is sense-making.

How the circle works

Private Substack communityMembers gather in a private Substack space for weekly prompts and thoughtful discussion.Thoughtful reflectionPrompts help members process the transition and design their next chapter intentionally.Peer insightMembers share experiences from the same stage of life and career.Hosted conversationsOccasional reflections and guided discussions help keep the space focused, calm, and useful.

This community is for people who:

• recently left corporate life
• exited a business
• stepped away from a senior leadership role
• are financially secure but asking deeper questions
• value thoughtful peers over networking noise

This community is not for:

• job seekers
• startup founders raising capital
• people looking for coaching or consulting
• generic networking

Hosted by Leah Manuel and Mark Brownley

We are navigating this transition ourselves. After decades in senior roles and leadership positions, we stepped away from traditional corporate structures. What followed was both liberating and unexpectedly disorienting. This community is not about having the answers. It exists to create the kind of thoughtful peer space we wished existed when we began this transition.

Leah is a former journalist and senior ministerial advisor with a career spanning policy development, communications, and executive roles in the education sector. After relocating interstate and stepping away from executive leadership, she began a more independent chapter and now runs her own strategic communications advisory practice remotely.Like many navigating this transition, she is exploring the freedom and uncertainty of designing a meaningful second act.

Mark is a chemical engineer whose career included executive leadership roles across the energy, aviation, and infrastructure services sectors.Four years ago he stepped away from corporate leadership and began exploring a portfolio chapter — building an AI venture in the US, advising on residential renovation projects in Australia, and pursuing acting through professional representation.Like many navigating this transition, he continues to explore the freedom and uncertainty of designing a meaningful second act.
